Program Objectives

Secondary Mathematics program objectives are:

  • Develop students' critical thinking, problem solving, communications, and computation skills.
  • Develop skills which enable students to apply mathematics to all areas of study.
  • Support mathematics for minorities, at-risk students, and students with special needs.
  • Offer programs which develop proficiency in functional mathematics.
  • Continue to assess program effectiveness. Support in-school leadership in mathematics.
  • Integrate the use of technological resources, such as calculators and computers.
  • Support mathematics league competitions. Help integrate mathematics, science, and technology.
  • Support the integration of mathematics into other disciplines.
  • Provide opportunities for students to value mathematics.
  • Develop students' confidence in their own ability to do mathematics.
